God Is Great in Zion

God is great in Zion, highly to be praised,
on the sacred mountain, elegant and raised,
in the royal city, fortified for war;
God is her defense, and guards her evermore.

We have heard the rumor and confirm the word:
this is God's own city, armies of the Lord!

Kings arose together, swept across to fight.
They were overwhelmed and staggered at the sight,
filled with fear and trembling, writhing in defeat,
reeling, as Your tempest burst upon their fleet.

In Your temple courts we reenact Your grace.
God, Your name is praised in every time and place,
justice in Your right hand, judgments in Your voice.
Now let Zion sing, and Judah's towns rejoice.

Wander through Mount Zion, count her many tow'rs,
lay to heart her ramparts, scrutinize her pow'rs.
