Safely in His furnace dwelling,
taught to love its kindled flame.
We know Jesus sits compelling
every ember's course and aim.
See, among the tongues of fire,
none can find a random ray!
For He's fashioned the entire
for His glory to display.
His decree—the flame's duration,
and it’s vigor: His command,
He, who needs no consultation,
carries out His gracious plan.
Who can question how He fashions,
ever near His furnace bright?
Stoking it with full compassion,
He will turn our faith to sight.
Come, oh Tender of Your furnace,
carry on Your work, we pray.
Only let your ways concern us,
in the midst of every flame.
If You made afflictions lighter,
ne'er we'd plumb Your depths of grace!
Let your furnace burn the brighter
'til we’re fit to see Your face!
taught to love its kindled flame.
We know Jesus sits compelling
every ember's course and aim.
See, among the tongues of fire,
none can find a random ray!
For He's fashioned the entire
for His glory to display.
His decree—the flame's duration,
and it’s vigor: His command,
He, who needs no consultation,
carries out His gracious plan.
Who can question how He fashions,
ever near His furnace bright?
Stoking it with full compassion,
He will turn our faith to sight.
Come, oh Tender of Your furnace,
carry on Your work, we pray.
Only let your ways concern us,
in the midst of every flame.
If You made afflictions lighter,
ne'er we'd plumb Your depths of grace!
Let your furnace burn the brighter
'til we’re fit to see Your face!
