When you were born, your mother
wrapped you in blankets fresh and clean.
And gently rocked you till you slept
in your nursery so serene.

But when Christ was born in a stable,
wrapped in swaddling clothes instead,
with a feeding trough for a cradle,
straw, the pillow for His head,

That’s how the Child to us was born,
that’s how the Son to us was giv’n,
and all the government shall be
upon His shoulders.

So He is called Wonderful Counselor,
so He is called the mighty God,
Eternal Father and the Prince of Peace.

When you were born, your parents
hearts were so full they nearly cried,
as they with joy told friends and family
that you had arrived.

But when Christ was born, it was angels
brought the good news to the earth.
The magi traveled to worship
when a star announced His birth.

That’s how the Child to us was born,
that’s how the Son to us was giv’n,
and all the government shall be
upon His shoulders.

So He is called Wonderful Counselor,
so He is called the mighty God,
Eternal Father and the Prince of Peace.

When Christ was born He knew no sin;
His righteous heart was pure.
His holy nature grieved at all the
temptations He’d endure.
But when we were born in sin’s bondage
corrupted and defiled from the day we
breathed our first breath, our souls already died.

That’s why the Child to us was born,
that’s why the Son to us was given,
and all the government shall be upon His shoulders.

That’s why He is called Wonderful Counselor,
That why He is called the mighty God,
Eternal Father and the Prince of Peace.
